Lynn Martel: January 31, 2025

Posted on January 7, 2025March 15, 2025

Award-winning mountain writer and photographer Lynn Martel will be in Nelson on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. to share stories and photos from her latest book Stories of Ice: Adventure, Commerce and Creativity on Canada’s Glaciers.

The book chronicles the glacial exploits of a series of fascinating individuals—explorers, professional guides, tourism operators, scientists, artists, filmmakers—and in the process, weaves together the rich history of British Columbia’s and Alberta’s glaciers.

As Writer in Residence with the 2025 UN International Year of Glaciers Preservation, Lynn will also share how the initiative aims to recognize and celebrate all that our glaciers and icefields give us, and ways to prepare for how their melting will affect us.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for a showtime of 7:00 p.m. The venue is the Sanctuary space inside the Nelson United Church, located at 602 Silica Street in Nelson. Lynn will take questions after her presentation, as well as sign books. Books cost $42 and will be available for sale at the event.

Tickets to this Nelson Adventure Speaker Series event are $10 each, and available online through Eventbrite here. Seating is limited to 100 people.

The Nelson Adventure Speaker Series is a non-profit endeavor, made possible with help from our sponsors Notably, a Book Lover’s Emporium; Otter Books; Elephant Mountain Literary Festival; Whitewater Ski Resort; and The Adventure Hotel.
