I figured it would happen at some point: The award-winning outdoor writer I’m bringing to Nelson for a book talk is myself! One of my recent stories was chosen for The Best Women’s Travel Writing, Volume 13, launching in June. Please join me to celebrate on Thursday, June 18 at the Nelson United Church at 7:30 p.m.
The story, “The Magnificent Mother of the Sea,” recounts my experience in Australia during the Great Barrier Reef’s annual coral spawn. Embedded with a team of marine biologists and Indigenous Sea Rangers working to keep the reef alive, I had a front-row seat to one of the greatest reproductive shows on Earth—and to what we stand to lose if the planet continues to warm.
I will share photos and anecdotes from the trip and read excerpts from the story. Notably Books will be on site selling The Best Women’s Travel Writing, Volume 13. The newest collection in this award-winning series invites you to join twenty-seven inspiring and thoughtful writers as they traverse the planet, crisscrossing all seven continents and exploring the ways travel can illuminate, heal, inform, and transform a life.
Tickets are $10 and include dessert and beverages from some of my favourite local bakeries and boutiques. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.
Please purchase tickets in advance at Eventbrite here.
